There's no downplaying this one. MARTA police definitely needs to get it together. If there ain't an officer situated at all entrances of the station at ALL hours of operation, something is SERIOUSLY wrong.

Yeah, and on the westbound PLATFORM in the middle of the afternoon yet! Five Points is probably the busiest and even with all those people around this happens.

Wow, does anyone think it is interesting that the AJC is not accepting comments on this story. Also, they dont even mention that it is the second time in a week that this has happened. Media censorship at its best!

Five Points Station has become much more chaotic over the years. I moved away from Atlanta in 2005 and just moved back in the past six months and it's totally different at Five Points.

This is the type of stuff that gives MARTA/mass transit in Atlanta a bad name, not to mention the image one typically sees at the Five Points station.

I work a couple blocks from there. I never feel unsafe down here, and I don't get off work until 11pm. But there is definitely an "interesting" crowd down in this area sometimes. In my place of business, I definitely see some mentally unstable people on a daily basis.

This is getting ridiculous...
Not when I lived up there. The big subway stations(Times Square, Grand Central, Union Square, etc.) usually have NYPD scattered throughout. Marta police are apparently a complete joke.
NYC is a good bit safer overall than Atlanta. You just have to know the parts of town to avoid. Atlanta crime just seems random and spread out.
