Virginia Highlands and Midtown are really the only areas. Buckhead has lots of bars/clubs, but you can't really walk to them. I would say West Midtown is also becoming more walkable as more lofts, condos, and apartments have been built around bars/restaurants. The only other area is the gentrifying Edgewood Ave area near the MLK Memorial. There are a handful of bars/taverns and a ton of new apartments, but the area is still gentrifying and one can't be put off by a few bums. Decatur is walkable, but there aren't many residential units near bars/clubs and the bars/restaurants seem to close earlier.

Midtown- near 10th and Cresent, Virginia Highlands, Buckhead- near east andrews. Really depends on what types of bar/clubs you are looking for. If you dont mind the alternative crowd then little 5 points would be ok. Decatur has some great bars from what I hear, but when I went on a thursday night, they were pretty much all closed around 12 am. Inman Park/Old fourth ward have a few bars, but once again not a whole lot you are gonna stay out late at, basically because its not a place you want to walk around at night. Atlantic station if you are primarily AA.

Interesting observation....Except I've noticed that there is actually quite a good ratio of all sorts of people there, many cultures/subcultures actually.

Anyway, regarding the poster's original question, I'd definitely say VA Highland or Midtown, buckhead, even.

Whenever I see AA I ALWAYS immediately think "Alcoholics Anonymous".

When I see MSM for Mainstream Media I immediately think Men who have Sex with Men (this due to my occupation as an HIV researcher).

Sorry, don't mean to hijack.

I am moving in with my cousin who lives in Smyrna. I live in Nashville now. Are there any walkable neighborhoods nearby?

Well, "Smyrna" refers to a largish area, and Vinings is right next door. Parts of the Vinings area are quite walkable, as are some areas of southern Smyrna (depending on your definitions, of course).

What are you interested in being able to walk to?

Id agree during the day, but at nighttime, the demographics seem to change a bit. Not that it is all AA or that anyone would feel out of place like in some other areas of the city, but their is a change. Either way Atlantic Station doesnt really have to many bars/clubs, they have several restaurants that kind of change into lounges like Strip, the bar at hotel twelve, Geisha house which has a party occasionally- which ends being being pretty much all Asian, and a couple Coffee Bars, but other than that I cant think of much.
