Have you ever been to Murphy's in VA Highlands?

I went there for brunch for the first time the other Sunday and LOVED it. I would go there for dinner on my bday but I want to try some place different....but that's as good as Murphy's as far as variety/quality of food/service.

Any suggestions...? I plan to have a party of 5-8.

I used to go to Murphy's pretty regularly. It's a good place, but warning:

The last time I went there, my wife and I ordered a couple glasses of wine. The waitress came back and informed us they were out of the wine we selected and recommended a half bottle of a similar wine. We agreed to that, and when we got the bill, the half bottle she recommended turned out to be three times more expensive than the wine we ordered.

Check out some of the places in Decatur, there are quite a few good restaurants there. I am also a big fan of Two Urban Licks and One midtown Kitchen.

IIRC, Wahoo, in Decatur has been recommended in several previous threads.

Wow, that's no bueno.

When I went for brunch we were using a Scoutmob coupon and they didn't apply it. I *almost* put my card in there without checking because they said it had been applied. I would've paid double what I was supposed to simply for not paying attention.

Wahoo is a good option. That's my favorite Decatur restaurant.

We recently went to Sprig for the first time, and it'd be another good option. It's in Oak Grove on Lavista Road.

We took some friends to Murphy's for a birthday dinner a few years ago and inadvertently left a camera on the table. We'd just stepped out the door when we realized we'd left the camera, and therefore immediately walked back in. The talbe hadn't been cleared yet (probably about 90 seconds had passed) but the camera was gone. I'm assuming another customer grabbed it. Life in the city, I guess.

Murphy's continues to be one of our old standbys. I used to live next door to the old Murphy's and was in there nearly every day.

Did you ever try The Red Snapper on Cheshire Bridge?

We had some great food threads---maybe someone else can find them.

I hope you have a great birthday.

Someone inquired about Miller Union--in the Howell Mill/Atlantic Station area--it sounded good--not much like Murphy's, I assume--but I want to go there.

Parish down the street in Inman Park/Old 4th Ward is pretty yum. Never been there for dinner (I've only gone during breakfast/lunch hours), so I can't vouch for the dinner menu. But the last time I went for brunch, the service was sublime, food scrumptious, and I'd give the entire experience 5/5.

Our host was very accommodating, our server was extremely pleasant, and it was during a very busy brunch hour. So this indicates they'd be able to handle your party well.

If you want to try something a little more casual, Ormsby's on Howell Mill Rd. might be good. Yelp reviews http://www.yelp.com/biz/ormsbys-atlanta offer a better picture of it than their website can because it really is a unique kind of experience in the city: there's an upscale game room downstairs with bocce, shuffleboard, a photo booth, and other goodies. So after you eat in the main dining room upstairs, you can party down there some more. When I went for my birthday about a year ago it was extraordinarily packed, but that was when it just opened. The crowds may have simmered a bit, so you're more likely to actually get seating and whatnot. If you have to go Friday or Saturday, get there EARLY. Otherwise, shoot for a Thursday night.
