Yes, it does. That's a commonly-known fact for anyone who knows anything about Atlanta. But just in case you haven't been paying attention: http://www.publicbroadcasting.net/wabe/news.newsmain/article/0/0/1649594/Atlanta/Atlanta.Ranks.2.for.African.American.Population (broken link)

Obviously it's not evenly dispersed throughout the metro area. That much should be obvious.

So should the tongue-in-cheek nature of my post. I've been living here for almost 4 years- do you really think I haven't realized that there are lots of "black folks" in metro Atlanta?? :

People from NYC love to say Atlanta is segregated when NYC is just as segregated as Atlanta with neighborhoods such as Chinatown, Harlem, Spanish Harlem, etc, etc. DC is the same way with most of the blacks living in SE DC and PG County, Hispanics living in Takoma Park, etc. I can keep going and going.
Why do you care if people say Atlanta is segregated? I really do not get it.

It's like saying, "There is crime in Atlanta," then someone responding, "But there is crime in every major American city!" Well, no sh**, way to state the obvious. Just because they say Atlanta is segregated doesn't mean they think that it's the only place that is.

Thank you, Amen to that.

I think somebody's sarcasm meter is broken.

But yeah, I haven't really noticed Atlanta being "singled out" for its segregation. It's just a fact of life in most cities.

Atlanta does have a big disparity between the North Metro and the South Metro, though, similar to the West Metro vs. East Metro in Washington, DC.

The irony is that, while many areas ITP are still heavily segregated economically, the Atlanta suburbs by and large are very much integrated -- especially Gwinnett, Cobb, Fayette, Rockdale, Douglas, Coweta, Henry, etc. You'll find people of all walks living side-by-side and the school demographics a healthy mix. True, South Fulton, Clayton and South DeKalb are as black as Cherokee and Forsyth are white, and that bothers me both ways, but to say Atlanta overall is "segregated" is just flat wrong.

...

A fact is mentioned in your posted link that makes things even more interesting--

only 15% of Metro Atlanta's black population lives within Atlanta city proper/city limits...
