Cool video, but it still shocks me to the core that a dozen new gates costs a billion dollars. The new terminal is perhaps the most gold plated piece of intrastructure I've seen in my life.

That's going be a good look.. I can't wait to see the finished result. I wonder if Atlanta is now going to focus on around the airport? I know Hapeville is improving alot since the aerotroplis development, but i wonder about Clayton county and especially college park old national hwy..i wonder if they making changes/improvements due to the Atlanta Airport development.

It is amazing, but, I agree with testa50 - $1 billion for 12 gates?!?!? Couldn't we have a serviceable terminal along the lines of the style of Concourse A for lots less than that? I think an airport should be welcoming to folks, but goodness....

To be fair, this includes a ton of roadway access and stuff, but if you look at the roadways approaching the thing, they are just completely massive--like, suspended 60' in the air for long distances. There's nothing like that in the existing terminal, and it works just fine.

I would have strongly investigated just doubling the size of concourse E and then building an entirely new double-tunnel for the underground people mover just to ferry people from the international terminal back to baggage claim without rescreening. That would keep everything centralized in one place.

Of course, the US government is the one that requires transit visas for folks on an internaitonal layover (Paris > Atlanta > Bogota, for instance), so we can't do much about the fact that they have to go through customs and rescreening (which infuriates foreign travelers to no end).

But at least this will solve the rescreening for destination passengers problem.

It will be nice once Aerotropolis ever opens up, those same people in the new terminal will be able to take a bus to Aerotropolis to shop while they are waiting on their flight
