Can someone please define the rush hour in Atlanta, as far as times go? What time does traffic get heavy? That will play a big factor on our job hunts when we get up there in a few weeks!

The morning rush doesnt begin until after 7:30 and rush hour is not bad depending on which direction u r going to. Most people will come in here and say rush hour is bad everywhere but that isnt the case.

In the afternoon, traffic starts to slow on 75 north at around 4:30, but doesn't get too bad until 5:00-5:30. It normally doesn't go back to normal until around 7:00. "Heavy" is relative though- compared to some of the traffic I dealt with while living in NJ, 75 never really gets "heavy".....

what about 85/285? We are going to be in the Suwanee area so probably won't be using much of 75, right?

There is considerable traffic in this area during peak periods. Why not find a motel/hotel in the area--there are a number around the Mall of GA which would give you a shorter commute to the employment locations.

To me bad traffic is when traffic isn't moving. A lot of people say Atlanta has bad traffic because we have a lot of lanes. Having a lot of lanes does not equal to bad traffic as long as the traffic is moving. Being in 7 lanes of traffic that is moving is not bad traffic, it may be heavy in volume but it isnt bad. The only real BAD traffic in Atlanta IMO is the Top End (285) near 400, downtown on the connector when an event is going on in the city and a few other spots but for the most part is isnt that bad

The worst traffic in Atlanta is not on the freeways but in the northern suburban areas on narrow overburdened roads. Example, try driving from the east part of Roswell to the 400 freeway in the morning on Holcomb Bridge Rd.

ARE YOU PEOPLE IN DENIAL? OR JUST PLAIN NUTS? For the past week I have been commuting every day between Fayette County and Piedmont Hospital in "SOBU" (where my dad is recovering from surgery) and can assure you, coming in from the Southside traffic is STACKED on the connector NB from Langford Parkway all the way thru Midtown by 7 a.m. in the mornings, and by 4 p.m. going the opposite direction in the afternoons. Today it took me 1.5 hours to go 30 miles. AND THIS IS ON THE SOUTHSIDE! I can only imagine what it's like on the other side of town. (BTW -- 85 south was stop and go starting at the 400 merge thru downtown at 4 p.m. today.)

PLEASE be realistic folks!

And anyone who isn't completely horrified by the idea of 7-12 lanes of interstate...on one side...is in denial. I know, you get used to it. I did back when I lived out by Mall of GA. But now that I've lived pretty much interstate-free for 5 years I nearly hyperventilate to get on metro Atlanta interstate roads.
