I am finally transferring my tag/title to Georgia from North Carolina and was wondering if you are required to have an emissions test before you can transfer over???

If I recall, yes, get emissions test PRIOR to standing in line for your tags. Bring your results (passed hopefully) with you. Also, don't know with other counties, but with Fulton, they only took CASH or CHECK - no credit card. Make sure you have all your required docs with you. Don't want to waste time going home again and back. Check prior to going.

The metro counties require it. I find it funny how folks who live in Butts, Newton and other surrounding counties where they dont have to get the emmisions test do more driving in the counties that require it for their residents. Another rediculous law.

Thanks! I pretty much have to do it tomorrow morning. I'm just going to go to a Jiffy Lube before the tag office. How long does it usually take?

I have my title, my registration, I filled out and printed the tag/title application form, proof of insurance, proof of residency, and my GA drivers license. Other than emissions, I don't think I am missing anything else...

Anyone do this recently and have any tips?

That's good. I usually get to work at 9, but might be a little late tomorrow. Hopefully the tag office won't be too crazy... getting my license was pretty easy and quick (like 15 minutes).

If your car is by any chance fairly new (2009 model year or later) it's exempt from emissions testing, at least in Cobb County (my county). Not sure about other counties but suspect their rules are similar.

If they vehicle is 3 years old or newer, you do not need an emissions test.
