This is sort of an off-shoot of the WSJ "New New South" thread. I just find it absolutely mind-boggling how the international and local food scene in general seems to really be heating up in the Atlanta area.

Thanks for posting. More awesome news!

As a native, it also is mind boggling how International Atlanta has become.

It's now possible to eat as if you were in Korea, Brazil or Russia and never leave Atlanta.
My cousin (who used to live here before the Olympics) visited recently and could not believe he was in Atlanta. We thought it was so cool how in many places we were the only people speaking English. The Vietnamese restaurant's menu was in Vietnamese! We spent the whole week eating at ethnic restaurants and never duplicated a country. I'm convinced--you could eat out for a whole month in Atlanta and still not try every foreign cuisine.

This is definietly a recent development, and a testament to how global this city is now. Atlanta has now joined the parthenon of immigration gateways of America, joining the likes of Chicago, New York, Los Angeles.

I also remember pre-Olympic Atlanta quite well. From my perspective, as a kid from Columbus, Ga, it seemed like a big city to me even back then. Looking back, in comparison, it was a pretty sleepy and pleasant place. I can only imagine what my first impressions of Atlanta would have been if it was anything like it is now.

Love the ethnic diversity throughout the Atlanta metro area. I'm always grocery shopping in Roswell/Alpharetta areas for asian and euro food products. But my favorite restaurants will always be Mexican and Italian food.
