I have found Decatur city to be an extremely safe area; over the years, reports of burglaries, assaults, petty crime in my downtown Decatur neighborhood just never seemed to materialize. Meanwhile, my aunt in Alpharetta experienced two burglaries and a rape within two blocks of her home over a five year period.
Now, do I think that Roswell and Alpharetta are unsafe overall? No. But my point is that perception does not always equate to reality.

This. Perceptions are one thing. Thinking because it is closer to what some (not me) would consider undesirable neighborhoods (Kirkwood, East Lake) means that crime is higher, is just that, perception. It does not mean in all reality that incidents of crime are higher and in my experience is just not the case.
