Hi everyone,

I have a relative who wants to live in Windward in Alpharetta (Exit 11 off of 400) and would be commuting to Dunwoody for work, just north of the perimeter off the Ashford-Dunwoody exit. He has to be at work around 7:30 AM, and wouldn't leave work until 5:30 PM. Anyone know how long his commute would be?

Thanks!

Afternoon won't be terrible, morning may be dreadful. Keep in mind that it is 30 minutes or so without traffic.

They can also get off 400 at Abernathy and get to Ashford-Dunwoody that way, but it is still not a great commute.

Though leaving by 7 may negate some of the worst of the morning, leaving at 530 PM will put him in the thick of it.

Currently I'm renting in Milton. I get on the 400 from Haynes Bridge road (exit 9) and get off at Abernathy roady (Exit 5). I leave at 6:30 in the morning and usually I'm in my office by 7:00 AM. Some days (rare) at 6:55 AM and other days at 7:05-7:15 if there is an accident on the 400 or if it's raining out.

In the mornings, there's always a slow down on the 400...once in a while it crawls to a stop. Usually it happens at the Holcombe Bridge road (exit 7). Sometimes it's at the Mansell road (exit 8).

It's best to get off at Abernathy (exit 5) instead of going to I-285. That might save him time.

Usually I leave work around 4:30. My commute home is always a little longer, depending on traffic.

Thanks. Didn't realize what a bear the commute would be.

I am surprised with these answers, as I live in northern Dunwoody and traffic never seems that bad to me on 400 or 285 when I leave at 7am, of course we all know how much difference every 15 minutes makes in commute times around here! It does often seem like the 285 exit lanes are pretty backlogged early on 400, so I would concur that one should try to exit at Abernathy and take that over to Ashford-Dunwoody, or, even crazier, you could exit Northridge and take Roberts through Dunwoody if 400 was moving too slowly. You might run into school traffic, though, at that time. I guess it could be an option if 400 was at a standstill due to accident or something.
