But I assume it is only temporary?

Yes. Based on the article, they need temporary office space to house employees until their major renovation is complete.

This could be a good thing for downtown. Even if it's temporary (what ISN'T temporary?), it's better than nothing. It adds a lot of people with money to spend who will support area businesses, and puts money in the building owners pocket. Coke might need to make some improvements to the building, which might make the buildings more attractive to future occupants once Coke vacates.

Plus, their major renovation will employ hundreds, if not thousands, of people.

I see no downside to this at all.

I think Coke would be nuts to make improvements to a building that they are using temporarily. With so much available office space, they could demand the owner(s) make the improvements as a condition of the lease.

Either way, improvements almost surely will have to be made, even if it's only fresh paint and new carpet. I'm not talking about massive renovations.

The improvements and renovations they are making are not for their "temporary" office space, its for their main North Avenue campus headquarters. Employees are being temporarily relocated until the renovations at the main campus are complete.

JPD's comment clearly refers to possible improvements to the temporary space Coke will occupy.

I can't see in the article where renovations for the temporary space are planned, however, I am just happy to know that the renovations and leasing temporary office space will create jobs and generate real estate based income.
