Now to me that is a sign of changing times. When I lived in Vinings in the early '80s, it was not known as an exceptionally desirable area. It was a very nice residential neighborhood, but it wasn't exactly a highly priced real estate market. One small nice apartment building, a nice restaurant, a convenience store, a bakery in a boxcar, some lovely homes, and a pretty mountain with a cemetery where people held sunrise services on Easter Sunday.

Oh, and some sort of ski slope.

Some 20 years before that, Vinings was a separate little town, with its own post office and zip code, and a nice park which had been a site for picnickers back in the 19th century.

I haven't been back to Vinings since the '80s, but I know that the little apartment complex was torn down long ago, and apparently the mountain has been destroyed too, either by being literally destroyed or by being "developed" beyond recognition. I do remember when the little country church was demolished along with its cemetery.

And now Smyrna is called "Vinings" to make it more desirable? Hmmm..............

Decatur was pretty shabby not all that long ago. So it's interesting how these things change.

As were most intown neighborhoods. Change, indeed! I'm just glad I've been around to see it, as it gives me faith in the potential of current neighborhoods in decline.

The mountain hasn't been destroyed at all, it's just covered with skyscrapers now.
