I think the red names in the OP map are the subdivision names. These would have been given by the individual developers that built in that area. Over time, I suppose, the gaps between subdivisions filled in and have eventually become proto-neighborhoods. You could probably go back to topo maps, aerials, and home insurance maps from the 50's and find the origins of most of those neighborhood names.

From the perspective of Buford Hwy, we've always called it N Druid Hills or Northlake. With the exception of Oak Grove, which I'd call by name.

What do you guys think?
We've always just called it Briarcliff, with the exception of Oak Grove, which is pretty specific. I've also referred to it as the Lakeside High area on occasion.

"Toco Hills" is not the correct name for any area. It is "Toco Hill," singular. Look up the word "Toco" and you will learn why.

For that matter, Lenox Square is the correct name for the mall in Buckhead. Not Lenox Mall, and not Lennox.

And Virginia Highland. I've seen "Highlands" written 90% of the time, even from people while live there.

Moreover, it's not even a residential neighborhood. It's simply a shopping area and at most, the junction of North Decatur and North Druid Hills.
Same can be said for Little Five Points, which is the confluence of Inman Park, Candler Park, Poncey-Highland and Druid Hills.

I know a bunch of people who have moved to this area in recent years and every single one of them has referred to it as North Decatur. It's probably an invention by realtors.
