Lots of people don't like to go to Malls even if they are on the train line. An Apple store in Midtown would be great and do extremely well IMHO.

Well, you can't get much more urban than taking the subway to your local Apple store.

I don't get the aversion to malls. I'd be willing to bet that very few people could tell the difference between the inside of an Apple store in the mall and a free standing one.

Its not that. Its about the experience. Its not even so much about Apple itself.Mall are kinda "manufactured urbanity".Its like you're reminded that you are only there to spend money.

Most major cities have urban Apple stores. The largest Apple store in Texas is in Dallas right on the street in the Knox-Henderson neighborhood. And Dallas' mall locations are still packed so that shows that somewhere like Atlanta could definitely support one. I wonder if the reputation Atlanta has for smash and grabs is what's keeping the stand alone retail from taking off in the city there?

How many Apple stores does Atlanta have now? Hmm... Perimeter, Lenox, Mall of Georgia... I feel like I'm missing one or two. Anyway, I know Atlanta is head and shoulders larger than other mid-sized cities in Georgia, but I just can't believe Savannah, Columbus, Macon and Athens don't have even ONE Apple Store. Disgusting.
We Atlantans are SPOILED!

We do have Atlantic Station and that should be a valuable test tube to see if the concept still has legs here. Also the recent article about the modifications at Lenox mentioned possibilities for somebody like Apple moving to street level space.

I guess my point is simply that we've got this mind blowing rail system, yet folks act as if it's an incomprehensible burden to ride a stop or two to go shopping.
Actually we still have them and they are thriving more than ever.

Agreed. These urban areas are little (sometimes hidden) treasures of Atlanta and hope we can continue to invest in these areas instead of the crappy suburban-type (big box with endless concrete no tree parking lot) developments.

So when the Apple people bow down for their daily prayers do they bow towards their closest Apple store? The largest one in their region? The headquarters in California? And is "Be smug unto others" an actual commandment.

don't pat yourself on the back too much there...

it might not be a completely standalone store but it is definitely right up to the street, in midtown.

Not patting myself on the back at all. Was just an observation.
