I am sure that other annexed cities (and those considering annexation) will be watching carefully to see how this decision to breakup local city contracts will affect Sandy Springs residents.

(crickets)...

Sandy Springs was hailed by some to be the 2nd coming....seems they are in the same situation as many cities/counties with a shortfall.

Falling property taxes are universal. Some very specific areas might have some immunity from this, but you won't see it at the city or county level.

Actually they aren't universal, there was this article back in February which listed Milton, Roswell, Decatur City and Marietta among places that ran a surplus. Of the cities in the red that were mentioned, Sandy Springs was the worst.

That article mostly shows city budgets, not property taxes incoming in each area, but you're right that the article shows that some cities appear to be very good about being aware of their finances and making good budgeting decisions.

I wonder if this will be a sign to all of the "let's run government like a business" folks that actually running a government like a business isn't the magic cure all for everything from city budgets to syphilis.

I doubt it though.
