Illegal immigration is only beneficial on a business and upper class level. Those not included in that suffer the consequences. Texas and California has wasted billions of dollars on anchor babies when that money could have been used to bettering our already failing education system.

I've said many times that I favor bringing in more good, hardworking people. There's tons of room in this country and we can use the additional brains, brawn and innovation.

However, I strongly believe the U.S. itself should be able to decide who comes here and how they get to be citizens. Just about every other country I know of does that. (Is there any place you can go without legal documentation and permission and simply set up as a resident with no further ado?)

Obviously we've got to deal with the people who have already come here without permission, and we should strive to do that humanely. I don't want them targeted, demonized or picked on in any way. But I don't think it's unreasonable to ask folks to provide documentation showing their authorization to live in the U.S.

I don't think you have to be a jerk about it. And there will undoubtedly be a need for some exceptions and special circumstances. But surely we can handle that. We're grownups in this country who love freedom, compassion and opportunity.

Ran across this article this morning when I was supposed to be working. I wonder if its really true, and what impact it will have on the metro? I have a friend who is a teacher at Meadowcreek High in Norcross. She has said before that she and the administrators have noticed a decrease in Hispanic students. I'm not sure if it is entirely because of the new law, or because of a combination of that and the economy. It's all very interesting though.
I actually grew up around the norcross area near meadowcreek, and from what I've seen the area seems to have been progressively becoming a ghost town for a few years. I'm sure the economy is playing a big factor in what is going on, but also the fact that hispanics have been not only targeted recently, but going back years is another factor.

Hell, I can name several of my friends who are of latino descent who have gone back to their countries of origins since graduating from high school (I know some were undocumented but not sure if all of them were). All in all it looks like the demonization of hispanics is gonna result in more closed businesses and vacant homes around this area probably. :-/

How can you use this sort of language? These are American citizens you're talking about.

It's really too bad that the Native Americans were so accepting of the original "illegal immigrants".
