Right. Besides, drinks cost money. In some cases, a LOT of money. It's not like if the hours get expanded to four, all of a sudden people are going to have enough money to buy two more hours worth of drinks.

This reminds me of the "How I Met Your Mother" episode "Nothing good happens after 2 AM."

You must not go to the places I used to hang out in Atlanta. I would say the majority, by far, got to a point where they could very easily be a danger to many people once they got behind the wheel of a car.

I do however support to the right for there to be community input on this issue. If certain areas want to support a 3am or 4am closing time, that's fine by me.

I was just joking a bit. Honestly, I don't care too much if people wanna keep bars open til 4.

But, when you think about it, nothing much good does happen after two am (it always seems like a good idea at the time, but the next day... not so much.

The issue isn't about drinking per se.

A lot of people remember episodes like the chaos that erupted in Buckhead during 1999-2003 when bar hours were extended. There were huge problems with stabbings, shootings, drug dealing, late night mega cruising, unlicensed operations, trashing, etc. So they associate extended bar hours with that kind of idiocy and are concerned that it could happen again.

Maybe this stuff could be avoided the next time around. But those concerns are probably the major reason you get push-back on proposals to extend the bar hours.

I think it's a great way to attract young professionals to the city who want a vibrant lifestyle. It's nice to have more families in the city too, but I'm concerned people are trying to make the city too much like the suburbs in terms of constantly opposing any sort of nightlife.
Fine and dandy, except in NYC people dont get in their cars and drunk drive home, they take a cab, walk, bus or subway home...

They have 24 hour drinking in Miami and it's DUI city

My personal feeling is that it should be left up to the areas where the bars are located. The local residents are the ones with the most skin in the game.

My proposal:

Sunday, Monday, Tuesday: 4am

Wednesday, Thursday: 6am

Friday, Saturday: 8am

Special Afterhours Clubs...

Sunday-Tuesday: 'til 10:00am

Wednesday-Thursday: 'til 11:00am

Friday-Saturday: 'til 11:45am

For the City of Atlanta. These are max times. Bars can, of course, closer earlier if they'd like
