Or that general area east of Atlanta. I liked what I've seen of Atlanta the times I've stayed with friends there and thinking of moving.

I've been looking at some really nice houses there for very low prices. Property taxes are somewhat a mystery though, from super low ($400) to ridiculously high ($2700) for the same priced houses (~$80k) in the same general area. Most were built some 12-18 years ago, no doubt during Altanta's boom years.

Using google's street views I've 'toured' the area. A house may look great in a realtor's pic but when you look around the neighborhood you might see your neighbor's house is a rental and they paved the whole front yard to accommodate several cars from the several adults crammed into it living on the cheap. That is what is happening to beautiful new homes in Las Vegas; freakin' investor slum lords. Sorry, had to vent.

But anyway, I'm retired so schools and jobs are not relevent. Just want to know if there is anything worth knowing about living there; floods, known meth haven, whatever. lol. Crime is somewhat higher than average according to city-data, but can't be any worse than Louisiana where I now live.

Lithonia is very spotty!! There are a couple of very nice areas, but you have to judge each individual subdivision in Lithonia on its own merits. With no school kids involved, it's definitely an option.
