No matter what side one takes on the MARTA/crime argument, it really takes first-hand experience of the changes an area undergoes when MARTA sets up shop. I witnessed pre-MARTA Perimeter Mall and post-MARTA Perimeter Mall in the summer of 1996. While Perimeter has reached a completely acceptable equilibrium, it will never be what it was before MARTA came. The change was swift, noticeable, and clearly attributable to MARTA. I have heard the same story in regards to Lenox Square in 1986.

NOTE:

The topic is not about MARTA or how MARTA may or may not bring crime into an area. The topic is simply about the large number of car break-ins in a given area.

That being said, last year there was one night in West Cobb where 45+ cars were broken into in a matter of hours. More than half of them were unlocked. Most of them contained items like laptops, cell phones, iPods, iPads, and more - including at least one GUN, in an unlocked car. There are lessons to be learned about it for car owners.

Wow, I didn't realize they were running that Bait Car here in Atlanta. You'd think that would be a pretty serious deterrent.

The rest of your post doesn't deserve further comment.
Ive already used a gun to thwart, completely, a night time break-in of my home.

My weapon of choice, in this case, was a 12 gauge shotgun. The "person" was advised, by me, that further activities of this nature would result in the separation of his cranium from his torso. After considering my offer he decided a rapid departure was his best option. Left behind were all the goodies he had gathered. And, sadly, demographically, he was representive of the "typical" Atlanta thug.

So, while your advice on guns is noted, its outright rejected.

I think the trains have contributed to crime a lot...its a easy escape. Brian Nichols took the train after he shot all those people at the courthouse.

I had to laugh out loud on that one

If the crime is robbery, I doubt it would be an easy task to haul a few computers and several flat screens onto a MARTA train. Just my thought.
