BET loves Atlanta and the feeling is mutual.

The network is bringing it sixth annual BET Hip Hop Awards back for a sixth year this fall. The show has been taped the past four years at the Atlanta Civic Center and is set to be return the first Saturday of October. It’s always sold out and though it’s taped in advance, it runs very close to real time for attendees.

The Soul Train Awards, which airs on both Centric and BET, will return a few weeks later.

Most Atlantans could care less, I'm sure. These award shows are terrible.

Why is this a good thing? Even 3/4 of blacks surveyed (Your Black World survey) believe that the Sponsors should be boycotted because the images portrayed are so damaging to the black community.

"The survey asked a series of questions to measure the African American reaction to the most recent BET Awards show, which featured artists that regularly endorse violence, drug and alcohol abuse, sexual promiscuity, and other activities that activists have deemed to be a celebration of the dismal state of the black community."

"A total of 84.6% of all respondents say that BET is sending the wrong message by giving so many award nominations to artists like Lil Wayne, who has admitted to a willingness to kill newborn babies, shoot old women, carry weapons, etc. Some argue that the music goes far beyond simple entertainment, since millions of inner city youth emulate the behavior being featured in hip-hop lyrics. An artist earns respect from his audience by “keeping it real,” meaning that he must attest to a lifestyle which is authentic to the lyrics that he recites in his songs. Lil Wayne, who just finished a prison sentence earlier this year, is an example."

"Additionally, 90% of the respondents said that they believe that hip-hop music heard on the radio has gotten to the point of being destructive to the African American community."

Wow, great for city! Everyone needs to do their share in not supporting these idiots. I've stopped buying mainstream music and any other media that promotes such base behaviors.

I'm glad the BET awards is making it back for another year. With 90% of the programming on BET not even being music related anymore, it's refreshing to see another show that's showcasing the culture.

I'm not a fan of most of the candidates, most year, but it's good to see nonetheless

First off the BET awards has gospel, soul and all kind of genres
Second off it’s not the BET Hiphop awards it’s the BET hiphop awards
Third BET is no better or worse then MTV and VH1 it’s pop culture, in fact it‘s all Viacom.
Fourth BET is not and was never to meant to represent the black community, it’s like white people getting together saying most of pop culture doesn’t show them well.
Fifth, everything is a bad image of black people to many organization they can’t be please.
Sixth bad hiphop artists are no better or worse then horror film, most stories are fake, and after seeing or hearing violence the average joe doesn’t become violent.
Seventh there should be a survey on how many blacks care about “your black world” itself
Eighth the soul train awards is also coming to Atlanta which is on Centric, which is a BET network but cater to a older crowed is something wrong that too? uhh

If your against BET because of pop culture is general stupid I can’t argue, i mean you have to be again't horror films etc too but if your against BET for the hell of it fail. If your for pop culture coming to Atlanta but against BET failed. BET is a multi billion dollar media franchise, and they are putting 2 different million dollar awards in Atlanta.

The award shows are still incredibly cheesy and second rate. Nothing impressive about them and nothing to really be proud of. Like I said before I bet most Atlantans could care less
