I believe there are some areas of those trail extensions that are not yet complete but that I am not sure about.
That could be true, but the Silver Comet trail makes the general statement that it "ends at the Georgia/Alabama state line, near Cedartown and Esom."

Silver Comet Trail Georgia - Welcome

The map also shows that it comes pretty close:

I appreciate you all taking the time to share your thoughts. I have a coworker pushing Smyna so will definitley check out that area as well as Decatur and Roswell. Shivtim, the link to atlantabike.org was very helpful and thanks to those who shared trail info.

Mishap, input from another cyclist gave me good insights. I loved your suggestion to call local bike shops - I should have thought of that!

I'm still weighing pros and cons on moving but keeping my job is a big pro in this economy.

It's nice but kinda small by the standards of serious cyclists.
It is also very crowded and has a speed limit of 10. And it's only 7 miles long. I would not attempt any sort of serious riding on the greenway, but it's great for a fun ride with the family.

Eventually it will hook up with trails along the Chattahoochee to the south, and the Forsyth Greenway to the north. But not yet.

You should also check out the forums at atlbike.org :: Bicycle Atlanta Georgia Cycling eCommunity (News). There are regular postings about group rides in the Atlanta area. Many of them seem to be in the Smyrna, Dallas, Mableton area. You may not be interested in joining a group ride but it will give you a better idea of what local cyclists think are good routes.

I live in Woodstock and road biking up here is challenging. It was easier when I lived in Alpharetta as there are more roads with bike lanes and wider shoulders.

If you check out Smyrna, then definitely stop by Atlanta Cycling

Atlanta's Cycling Headquarters - Road, Mountain, and Triathlon

It has been many years since I have been there but the have HUGE groups rides that I run into (figuratively) when I am returning from my group runs.

They have a Vinings location which is on the South side of Smyrna.
