Atlanta adds jobs in first half of 2011 - Atlanta Business Chronicle

From January to June, Atlanta's economy has added 33,900 jobs, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Total private sector employment: up 42,200 jobs.

Here's a breakdown of a few of metro Atlanta's important growth industries:
• Leisure and Hospitality, +20,600 ( Big caveat: It's a highly seasonal industry)
• Professional and business services, +11,200
• Construction, +6,000
• Transportation and warehousing, +3,900
• Manufacturing, +2,800
• Health Care, +2,100

This article is a good example of how you can take the same data set and make two totally different observations. I'd say the implication of this article is far too optimistic.

From the BLS, Atlanta's total employment:

Bureau of Labor Statistics Data

As you can see, the first half in basically all years--including during the boom years--tends to have lots of employment growth, while employment normally collapses come December/January.

Based on the long term chart, I see nothing to be happy about whatsoever, besides that the 2008/2009 of massive job losses seems to have passed.

You do realize commenting on your own thread just to keep it near the top is pretty pathetic, don't you?
