I'm considering a position in Decatur, I have heard that Decatur is considered "the hood". Are there some nice and safe areas/schools in Decatur or the surrounding areas for a family. I'm looking for housing in 100K range.

"The Hood" - where did you get this crazy information?

Here is a link to the neighborhood guide for Decatur form Creative Loafing

Creative Loafing Atlanta | Neighborhood Guide | Decatur/Oakhurst/Avondale Estates=

Grade A education, average home prices of $300,000 an great restaurants to name a few.

Unfortunately your price range will likely keep you out of the nicer parts of area.

Yes, parts of metro Atlanta that have a Decatur mailing address are not very nice. The City of Decatur is, but your price point probably makes that impossible.

"Good" Decatur - zips 30030, 30033
"Bad" Decatur - zips 30032, 30034, 30035
With a budget of 100K, good Decatur is out of your reach. Bad Decatur isn't.

My stepsister lives in Grayson; generally OK, but she has seen a little 'fraying at the edges' lately, so to speak. She would like to get out, frankly.
