No. It is NOTHING like New York. Nothing. It's a great place to raise kids, very affordable, trees, grass...good weekend getaways. Lots of funky restaurants in select hotspots, nice parks, some decent museums... but it is futile trying to make this comparison. If you can accept Atlanta for what it is then you'll be very happy here. If you try to make it into something it's not, you'll be miserable.

I wonder why people aren't smart enough to realize that the term "New York of the South" has nothing to do with Atlanta looking like New York. It has never meant that. Ever.

What's funny is that I think most realize this - some just use it anyway as another "bashing" angle to play.

No, and Atlanta is better off not being like it.

Ok so if their talking about the way of living, atmosphere, people, food, attractions, or anything else it still does not relate to New York at all.

That's not what it means, either. It refers to Atlanta being the "big city" of its region.

Folks, "New York of the South" is simply a reference to Atlanta being the largest and most dominant regional city. Don't interpret such an innocent moniker as implying that Atlanta is otherwise NYC. Of course, it's not. And, that is neither good nor bad. Atlanta can and does stand on her own two feet as a major metropolitan city. There is really no reason to compare her to other cities in a nit picking way. I'm proud to live here, with all of it's good and bad. We all should be.
