Yes, my home is going for a foreclosure sale on September 6th, 2011 on courthouse steps in Douglasville, GA. How long do we have to vacate premises afterward and what is the law??

It is not unusual for them to evict you within a couple of days of the foreclosure. I stronly urge you to be out of the house by the day of the foreclosure. There is a recent thread on this issue. I will look for it and post a link.

Here you go - post #100 (bottom of page 10) picks up in July 2011

lorilove beat me to it - lots of info in that thread!

I just wanted to add that I'm sorry you're going through this, and that it may or may not happen on the date they initially schedule. Our house has been in foreclosure for almost two years. They keep scheduling it for the first Tuesday of the next month, and then it doesn't happen, month after month. The lender's attorneys can give no reason why, but I suspect they are massively backlogged. At this point I'll be relieved when it happens so we can move on.

That said, if your foreclosure does happen next month, they can ask you to move out right away. I highly recommend moving out ahead of time, or at least having a new place to live already lined up.

It sounds to me like they have a paperwork problem and don't have all the proper legal documentation.
