I haven't been offered yet, but the interview went well, and there's a strong possibility that I'll be working out of one of the two DFCS offices in South Fulton. Yes, I already know it's a hellish commute. Yes, I fully expect to be in my car a minimum of 2 hours per day. No, I can't sell my house anytime soon, especially since my husband works in Chamblee. My first instinct is to turn down the position, but having been unemployed for nearly three years, that's probably a bad idea. So I'll just have to suck it up and take it.

So, what I'm looking for from you oh-so-wise CD folks is a way to make the commute a little less hellish. I'm hoping for some degree of flexibility in my hours, either coming in early or leaving late. I'll either be going to Stonewall Tell Road in College Park, or Fairburn Road in what I assume is Bankhead, but I haven't been there so I'm not really sure. Unfortunately I won't be able to use MARTA for my commute, as I'll need my car at least some days to transport clients. I will certainly avail myself of public transportation as much as possible. Any other ideas? Special routes? Secret handshakes? Magic carpets? Please help me get to work without becoming a kamikaze pilot.

Shouldnt be that bad because you will be doing a reverse commute if you go 285W. You should have a 35 min commute.

Fairburn Road isn't in Bankhead. You are too far up. LOL.

Its right above Cascade Road and 285.

Either way, your commute will be fine. Going to work in the morning, smooth sailings. The biggest issue will be going home in the evening, you will probably hit traffic a little before GA 400.

Good luck. I know how long you've been waiting for this door to open.

Ah, that's why I was confused. My interview WAS on Donald Holowell, behind the MARTA station, but that's not where I'll be working. I got the impression that Fairburn was right down the street, but apparently not.

Hope the offer comes through!

As others have mentioned, you should be fine with the commute if you stick to 285. However, coming home will be the worst part. I would plan on ~1 hour on the commute, with more coming home than going (of course, throw in rain, an accident, or freak ice storm and all bets are off). 285N/E backs up a lot at 75/285 and then is usually pretty thick over and past GA 400.

I very much doubt 35 minutes will happen though, especially depending from where in Dunwoody you are coming (access to 285...).
