is it gay friendly? Yes I guess

jobs? Bad area to search for jobs in, high unemployment rate

safetyness? Crime isn't great here either, not completely dangerous but not good either

public transportation? No. Xpress is the only form of transportation in Clayton county and it only gets you to downtown and back during early morning and late afternoon hours of the day(no weekends).

Hope that answered some of your questions

If you are able to visit the county, you will get a better idea. I would say in most areas, Clayton needs improvement, but go see first hand for yourself. If you want to shop or see how that is at least, go to Southlake area which is Jonesboro / Morrow, very accessible from I-75, and you need a car to do that.

Jobs, it depends on what you are looking for, but you need a car to get around, except to the Airport. Unemployment rates for citizens of Clayton are higher than the surrounding areas.

I am not afraid to go into most any area as I know nearly all of the areas in Clayton County quite well (except the southern panhandle area called Lovejoy). I would call all of it hit or miss, some areas are better than others. Yes, there are definitely areas to avoid, but as long as you are cautious, you should have no problems about anywhere in "Clayco."

If anything, it's gotten worse.

Lol Thanks for the update from Savannah. Actually as a resident I can say things are looking up. Is our community as dense and bustling as say the northern suburbs? Nah... However, I can say it has become more diverse, plus we have a rising charter school that might serve as a model for the rest of the school district.

2015 UPDATE
is it gay friendly? As much as the rest of the metro
jobs? Thousands of jobs have been added within the last three years, and there's more to come (Note- Majority of jobs are blue-collar, and majority of people who have these jobs don't live in Clayton)
safetyness? As much as the rest of the metro, with the bad areas being College Park, North Riverdale and North Forest Park near the Atlanta city line.)
public transportation? Coming in March, Rail should start construction sometime before 2020

I love Clayton County! It is definitely on the upswing. We are a diverse county full of friendly people. I really feel that there is something for everyone in our great county.

Here are some of the fantastic things about Clayton County:
1. Accessibility to Atlanta and the airport.
2. Fantastic public libraries.
3. Downtown Jonesboro Historic District with Road to Tara Museum and Tour.
4. Neighborhood after neighborhood of quaint mid-century homes in Forest Park, Lake City, and Morrow
5. Clayton State University
6. Rustic Rex Mill Village
7. Home of the State and National Archives in Lake City/ Morrow near Clayton State.
8. Home of the World's Largest State Farmer's Market in Forest Park.
9. Lake Spivey (a private lake that is the closest you can get a motor boat in the water to downtown Atlanta.)
10. Elegant upscale residences of the Lake Spivey area.
11. Rural refreshment of the Panhandle Area of South Clayton.
12. Many nationally recognized Title-One schools of Excellence and charter schools.
13. New School of the Arts Magnet High School.
14. Friendly diverse residents of all ages, colors, and creeds.
15. Soon to be offered MARTA bus service with rail on the way (our fingers crossed)
16. A dynamic Faith Community.
17. You really do get "more for your money" for the real estate around here!
18. Really good road network (especially when compared to surrounding counties.)
19. Award winning Water and Sewage system that DOES NOT depend on the Chattahoochee.
20. Convenient: grocery stores, Southlake Mall, Walmart, Home Depot, etc all close at hand.

Etc......etc......etc..
