I am relocating to Cobb county and I have a mentally challenged older brother coming to live with me. Does anyone know how it works in GA? In NY it's county by county. I need to get him set-up with a mental health clinic, psychiatrist, and medical assistance.
Thanks in advance!
Judi

Mental health can be seen as a continum, where an individual's mental health may have many different possible values. Mental wellness is generally viewed as a positive attribute of a person. Mental health can be socially constructed. Mental health occur in different professions such as societies and cultures.

Here is a generic link to get you started.
georgia.gov - Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Addictive Diseases (MHDDAD).

FYI- GA is absolutely horrible with mental health. The Atlanta paper has done and still is doing several reports on the failed system here. People seem to routinely die in this system. And many more simply wander the streets of Atlanta. A shame.

Resurrecting this old thread out of curiosity, as to whether there have been any improvements to the mental health resources in the Atlanta metro area?

Fulton Co., specifically. I have a sibling who has reached extreme phases of her diagnosed bipolar disorder and it appears my other siblings and I (all 10-hours away!!!) may be headed to court there in order to have her committed, either to assisted living or a secure, residential unit. One thing is for sure, she can no longer live by herself (threats to self and others have begun).

Fingers crossed the picture is better than it was when this thread was initiated (and lapsed) eight years ago, in '08 . . . . (?)
