Ok ill make it short and simple. I have a friend that lives in Cobb Co. that messed up and opted for no health insurance because she couldn't afford it with the job she has now. She found out recently that she has hypertension when she had to make a trip to the emergency room and they put her on a prescription. Problem is, without health insurance she cant get a primary care doctor to renew her prescription. I took her to a couple of supposedly free clinics in the area but all of them gave the "not accepting new patients" line. She doesn't know what to do or where to go for help and it has me feeling terrible. Anyone have any suggestions?

Have you tried any of the St. Joseph's Mercy Care locations? "Hypertension management" is on the list of services they offer.

Ill pass that on. I wonder about the cost of their services though since they don't list it.

Some of the Walgreens have good clinics. We have used them for minor issues, instead of a trip to our doctor.

Urgent care centers cost money up front, but it is a step down from the emergency room if your friend keeps running out of options. You can get to most of them near hospitals and maybe negotiate a price but I don't know your friend's entire situation, just making a general suggestion. Usually nurse practitioners are on staff and some doctors; I would guess it varies from location to location.

Good luck to you and your friend in getting her better.

Try one of the Grady Clinics?

Grady Health | Primary Care Network

Since, she isn't a Fulton, Dekalb or CoA resident, if memory serves right, she will have to pay the upfront cost but they give a discount for you on how much you are able to pay for it.
