Why are homes around Marietta Square cheaper than in East Cobb?

What are the schools like in Marietta Square (elementary-high school)?

What are the names of the schools?

Is there crime around Marietta Square?

Have 2 children starting school in Fall, now rent in East Cobb but really like the Marietta Square area because of all the activity but noticed the price of homes difference between the two areas (we're thinking of buying now). I know East Cobb is known for the schools but are the ones in Marietta Square area that bad and is there crime???? Thanks for any info

Because East Cobb is viewed as more prestigious, with better schools. The City of Marietta runs its own school system, while Cobb County serves the unincorporated areas. The county schools are rated better, so areas in both east and west Cobb, outside the city limits, generally have higher property values.

I live in the Marietta Square area (about a 10 minute walk from it) and I have always felt safe. The area does have some crime, but I think that both the Cobb County Police Dept and Marietta Police Dept do a decent job of keeping it under control. There is a big push right now to make the Square a more desirable neighborhood, and the city is doing what they can to improve traffic and the general aesthetic of the area.

The kids in my neighborhood go to Westside Elementary, which is a very good school, but keep in mind that Marietta is very diverse, especially with regard to income. There are very expensive homes that easily sell for $500,000 mixed in with some homes that aren't worth near as much. If you google Marietta City School system, you can find a lot more information there. Good luck in your search.

There are some very nice areas around Marietta Square, but there are also some pockets of "not so nice" areas around the Square as well. There have a been a few crimes in the Square at night, and recently a client of ours had their truck broken into on the Square in broad daylight. This does not mean the Square area is bad or dangerous as stuff like this frankly happens throughout the metro area - but it's just important to make note of if seeking to buy a home in the area, in terms of making sure you get into one of the nicer pocket neighborhoods.
