If you had a spouse and young child, would you live here? Why or Why not?

Yes.

Only drawback--DeKalb Avenue is a busy road, but there are parks nearby and maybe the complex has a courtyard, etc.

Pluses--

*Rockin' schools...Lin, Inman, Grady
*Candler Park
*Little Five Points
*Urban walkability
*MARTA
*Intown
*etc, etc...

Yep. The train might be loud from time to time, since the townhouse faces the tracks. And Dekalb Ave is a busy, fast street so you won't want to let your kids wander around unsupervised. But for everything aries said, it's a good buy.

I wouldn't live directly on Dekalb Ave at that location. Now if it was one of the streets that feed into the street that feed into Dekalb Ave(the backside I guess)? You bet.

My rule is to never live on a road that has a dotted white line or solid yellow line dividing it. It's a bit too risky, both in worrying about kids accidentally running out into the street(which I have done myself when I was young) and in trying to pull a car out into the street with impatient and aggressive drivers.

I love that area. Just wouldn't live on the busy street.

My main issues would be the train and road. If it has good soundproofing, I think I could do it.

Thanks for the quick responses! What if the alternate was this...

Which do you think is the best buy?

I prefer the second one. I like that complex. Its off the main road but further back so may have alot of road noise but you can still enjoy your yard.

Didn't Pulte take those over from another builder?

Yeah... the townhomes in the front were going for $300k to $500k. I guess the original builders ran out of money or couldn't finish the development because of the economic downturn.

Oakhurst Commons would be our top choice, but we were just entertaining other options within our price range...

NOTE:

Please do not post links to private realtor's sites. Just post the block/neighborhood/area of the place you're interested in when asking what people think about the neighborhood. Thank you.

I'd say no, not with a young child. Right on that block are two blue houses (right next to Fox Bros) that are currently bank owned but used as boarding houses with about 14 rooms to rent. The Georgia Sex Offender registry shows that there are currently 3 registered offenders that have records for child molestation or child exploitation living at that address. To be fair, the site says they are not predators, and it doesn't say what their actual crimes were, so you don't know the whole story, but given other options I'd look elsewhere. The boarding houses just recently had a for sale sign go up so the situation may change, but you never know.
