It was an HOV/restriced lane anyways! It wasn't like they took a general purpose lane... I could only imagine the uproar if they did that.

In Miami on I-95 they took the HOV lane AND a general purpose lane to make their HOT lanes which are two lanes in each direction... and people there did not freak out, they did not try to overthrow the Governor or remove the HOT lanes, and they did not attempt to get a waiver from the federal government to lower the carpool limit...

Their HOT lanes are 3 plus for free, everyone else pays. They have an overall positive perception among people who frequently use the road and Florida is in the process of expanding them (not building new lanes, but converting more HOV and general purpose lanes). This proves that people in this state are just plain WEIRD... this is the ONLY place where the reaction to HOT lanes has been so ridiculously controversial.

Future HOT lane plans in Atlanta involve building NEW lanes and converting the existing HOV lanes, which like I said are restricted lanes in the first place.

They say they are building new lanes but I do not believe them because it is going to cost too much to add a new lane to our highways.

Two projects are moving forward for I-75 that will build new lanes:

I75 Express Lanes

West by Northwest (http://www.dot.state.ga.us/informationcenter/p3/projects/WbyNW/Pages/default.aspx - broken link)

The HOT lanes were a bad idea, but the governor doesn't need to be recalled over just this imo. I have to at least applaud the gov for supporting the sunday sales law.

New to the forum and just wanted to weigh in on the topic.

I live in Gwinnett and I am a regular I-85 user. I have a Peach Pass and don't mind paying for using the lane. I recognize that lanes are never "paid for" as I repeatedly have heard people saying that the lane was "taken away." Roads need continuous maintenance. Gas tax revenue has been declining over the past several decades so new revenue is needed to upkeep the roads. I am fine with the HOT lane because I would prefer to pay for a lane as opposed to driving over massive potholes and ruts.

People throughout my community have complained that congestion on the general purpose lanes has worsened since the HOT lanes were added, but I see less and less congestion every week. It is nice to speed by at 45-70 MPH past traffic crawling in the general puprose lanes. I think more and more people who use the general purpose lanes are noticing how quickly the HOT lane moves and thus have been signing up for the Peach Pass. As more people move to the HOT lane, congestion on the general purpose lanes will improve that much more.

There are plans to eventually put HOT lanes on pretty much every metro area interstate. I know that there is a plan to put HOT lanes on I-75 in Cobb, the Perimeter, I-85 inside of the Perimeter, I-20, and I-75 on the south side.

Deal should not be recalled because of something that is not nearly as problematic as people are making it out to be. He should be credited with being forward thinking.

if it was about road maintenance %100 of the profit would be for the roads and not anything less

How do you figure? Some of the revenue goes into SRTA's coffers to build additional roads. I-75 HOT lanes will be new lanes. They will also need to fund the equipment needed for HOT lanes. This is not some scheme where SRTA is collecting money and pocketing it for employees' personal benefit.

What do you think the revenue is going to be used for?

I'm not a fan of Deal's, but this move to recall him is just ridiculous.

And it's pretty much been shown that congestion pricing is an effective means of improving traffic flow in larger metro areas.

Do you think this is about helping traffic or is it about the money?
