Happy Turkey Day guys, was just curious what the deal is with the hotel on North Druid Hills that you can tell has definitely been shut down. Last night I was getting off 85 on N.Druid Hills and noticed one light on....it was very very strange. Does anybody know what i'm talking about?

Are you talking about the highrise building right before the McDonalds? It was a hotel for a long time and then turned into an office building and has been vacant for at least 3 years. I always notice it also as there is just one light on and its on one of the upper floors. Of course you could be talking about a totally different building and that would make two on N Druid Hills.

This building started life as the Executive Park Hotel in the 70's. Later it became a BellSouth training center, with lodging attached. It has been vacant for at least 5 years now.

Right before the real estate meltdown, it was slated to become a Crown Plaza hotel. I haven't read anything about it for a while now......

In January 2013, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta bought the building for $9.6 million. Here are the plans this summer for demolition. We just got the email this morning from facilities. The Park is our ajoining office buildings that house all of the administrative (non clinical) departments.

In the next couple of weeks, Facilities will begin preparing the four BellSouth buildings located next to The Park for demolition.

Below is a brief timeline of the demolition process:
Contractors begin the abatement process of the asbestos found in each of the four buildings. The asbestos removal will strictly adhere to Occupational Safety and Health Administration and National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants guidelines. Air quality and/or employee, worker or community health should not be affected and measures are in place to protect everyone throughout the process.

August: Contractors begin demolition to three of the lower-story buildings, including the motels and conference center.
Fall 2014: Contractors implode the 19-story building. The implosion date is still to be determined, but employees will be notified of the date prior to the implosion.

Probably. Well, almost certainly.

Who wants to go check it out? Got the prison farm down, time to move to more exciting locations!

I'm taking a mental health break for the next few hours, but this cracked me up. It was made funnier because I have an old episode of The Office playing in the background where Erin mentions The Shining and Rosemary's Baby. It's not exactly The Perfect Storm, but I laughingly thought for a moment I may need to grab the dog and step outside.

As a more serious response, if this place is abandoned then I'm not sure I think they just leave a light on at night. Guess what hotel chain that slogan comes from from I'd guess that someone who has hit hard times knows how to fire up some electricity without a billing address. If times are that hard, I'd say give them a break and not call attention to it.

I don't think he will be happy if they blow up his building.

Of course, he'll just find another home.... somewhere.

Well, it seems as if he prefers high rises. Thank God I live in a single family home...

Yep, I'd be checking my doors and windows if I lived in a highrise. Not that it would really make any difference.
