My son took the JATP Test this week and I must admit that I still don't know what this whole JATP thing is. I was told I would be receiving a report (though I have no idea what is going to be in it) and I was also told that the schools would be receiving a detailed report (which I can't get unless I pay more money).

What is included in these mysterious reports? How do I know what the individual schools expect?

Any advice is much appreciated!!

JATP is an IQ test. You'll get a one-page summary of your child's results in the mail w/ 3 columns . . . verbal IQ . . . performance IQ . . . and full scale IQ.

It won't assign your child a specific IQ number, but will classify them as very superior, superior, high average, average, or below average.

I didn't pay for the extra report. We didn't have a great experience w/ our psychologist and the whole JATP thing seemed kinda nuts, so we didn't really care what else this kid-shrink had to say about our 4 year old.

One other thing . . . I got the impression the schools put varying importance on the JATP in their admissions process. During our tour of observations, some of the JATP schools had their own full 2-hr evaluation . . . . and others only had 30-45 minutes of on-campus observation.

My feeling from the observations was the more serious the schools took their own evaluations, perhaps the less importance they placed on the JATP.

And then, there are great ATL private schools that detest the whole JATP idea/concept and don't use it at all.
