Are there more urban grocery stores ready to open in Atlanta's three main districts (downtown, Midtown, and Buckhead)?

I know there is the Publix at the ground floor of a condo development in midtown, any more like that coming soon?

They are probably the greatest catalyst to creating activity on the street and making sure more people live in urban areas.

If a new one comes to downtown where should it go?

There was a Publix planned for the office tower at 50 Ivan Allen, but that project isn't likely to be built anytime soon, unless a large tenant comes forward to fill the office space. That's the only one I'm aware of.

That Publix in Midtown is designed to fit in just right with it's surroundings. I love this kind of development!

Surprised there isn't already in the Georgia State Campus. Best spot would be close to Five Points Station and Underground. That way students could walk or take MARTA and it would serve growing condo population downtown.

Buckhead has some grocery stores already like the Disco Kroger (I refuse to let that name go! ) And as noted there's a Midtown Publix, Atlantic Station Publix, Trader Joe's, and further out are Kroger and Whole Foods.

Downtown is more of a problem. Maybe they don't have the resident density yet. Turn over Underground to GSU to make it a village like GT's Tech Square with more student housing and it could support lifestyle retail like a grocery store.

Great idea for Underground!

For a while it was actually listed in the phone book as Disco Kroger.

Wasn't there talk of one being built over in the Morosgo/Adina immigrant housing area at Lindbergh?

As an aside, I had no idea what I was missing by not being able to walk to a grocery store before my last move. It is the biggest convenience! Forgot milk? I'll be back in 5 minutes!

Heh! No, that was back in the early 90s, I think, when cell phones were still about the size of a car battery.

The good part about that was that you didn't have to worry too much about someone walking off with it.
