Good afternoon!

Will be driving down to GA before my June 8th close on our new home in VHighland - very, very excited. My wife will join me near the end of the month with my children and most of our belongings. This gives me a chance to get down there and prep the house a little bit.

We are trying to sort out the most safe/secure way to bring at least some belongings down in advance of our full move in late June, to tide me over. Options include (i) loading the smaller sized suv with all it can hold, (ii) load it up AND pull a UHAUL from CT down, or (iii) don't bring much stuff.

The last option is in play because of a need to stay in a hotel for several days before the close -- nervous about having belongings out in a parking lot - in car or UHaul. Have stayed at some of the cheaper spots out in Norcross in the past, was contemplating the same, just not sure.....

Any advice? Appreciate the local perspective!

Put a lock on the U-Haul. Most thefts are breaking windows for electronics visible from the street.

Can people disconnect from your vehicle and wander off with the entire thing? Guess can try to locate/park the uhaul to prevent this. And - a wandering band of lock cutting thieves seems fairly unlikely :-)

I would bring down as much stuff as you possibly can and put it into a secure storage facility.
don't bring priceless heirlooms or irreplaceable valuables though. The less you have to bring down later the better. But without having closed, there obviously is some risk in doing that.

Well the idea would be to have it immediately available on June 8th - leaving CT June 2nd or so. Would there be a safe place to store a full uhaul trailer for five days or so? Would have to detach/reattach full.

Do you know anyone around here who would let you park the UHaul at their house for a couple of days. That'swhat we did, but we had everything we owned in it. Closed on our old house on a Friday, the closing onthe new house wasn't until Monday. Didn't want to use a storage facility as we would have had to unpack and then re pack the truck. Parked it at a friend's house instead.

Order a POD. Fill it in CT, and have it dropped in the driveway of the new place here in GA.

Ask your buying realtor to let you park the trailer for a few days. The 3% commission on your purchase should offset any inconvenience.

i think you can buy the uhaull insurance, that covers it, its an extra $20 day or $30, but i would recommend, backing up the truck to a BRICK wall. so no one can even open the door.

thats what ive done before in the past

and USE this kind of lock, not the regular kind. they cost about $20-30 at lowes/homedepot, but are much stronger.
