I'm sure your very important to the city of Atlanta and everything but did you work at Burger King. Everyone successful doesn't have a Bachelors Degree and just because I don't have one doesn't mean I have to work for Burger King and such. Some of the most successful people don't have a Bachelors Degree. Im not too proud to work anywhere but if the only way you can get a decent job is by having a Bachelors degree then that's clearly a sign of a poor economy. I'm not complaining about the lack of jobs but the statistics show the lack of jobs it's not me making this up. I love Atlanta and not putting it down but there are plenty of people that feel the same way. I'm going to keep going to school but in the meantime I will keep looking for something better. It never hurts to keep trying.

All I'm saying is things don't come overnight. I moved here 30 credits from getting my BA, couldn't find a job. I moved to DC, got my MA, moved back with a job. Competition here is stiff. I knew I wanted to live here for good so I had to move and then come back. Good luck

Does the school you are attending have any internship opportunities? Pay might not be good, but it could get your foot in the door for something better down the road. Just an idea.

Also, when complaining about the job market and your inability to find a job, people will take you more seriously if you use proper grammar and spelling. You never know who is reading and who can help you out.

To your own argument no one owes a person with a Masters Degree a job either. This man is looking for an IT job which I presume is his bread and butter while he dabbles in music. There could be 100 folks with Masters in Finance while he has an Assoc with a computer background apples to oranges. Also there are varying scales of jobs and a person with a Master could very well be over qualified for the job. Masters does not equal job over anyone else.

But I'm finding it next to impossible to get my foot in the door in IT. Everyone wants the highly experienced.

In many cases their is no money in an internship. Even those are not easy to come by.

I am wondering where the jobs are too. I recently received my bs in marketing. I have 2internships and I currently work in financial services. I'm trying to get out of this industry as it's not for me. People are getting jobs here, but I feel like I'm not lucky enough

I think it really depends on the segment of IT that you're in. Right now I can only speak from what I know, and it seems like software developers are hot right now, specifically for mobile iOS/Android, and web (ruby on rails). There are also a lot of jobs for Java and .NET, but the problem with those technology stacks is that usually bigger established companies use that and they stick to the traditional 5+ year work history and/or degree.

The easiest/fastest way to gain success in IT is to do your own thing on the side if you can. That way your business can be a substitute as your work experience and at the same time you're showing potential employers that you are a well balanced person who is passionate about technology.

Also I think you need to know newer technologes too...technologies where it's nearly impossible to say "you need xx years of experience" just based on the life span of the technology. I started developing on iOS when it was first released, and even now, (3+ years later) a lot of jobs want to see apps live on the App Store, although there has been a tickling in of specific years experience in the technology as well. I figure in a couple years, iOS positions will be heavily based on years of experience.
