Hello everyone,

We are a young couple who are looking to move to the Atlanta area. One of us will be woking off of Power Ferrys Road. We are looking for a great safe area with great schools. We are looking for that great community feel (bridgemill). We have heard great things about the Canton/Holly Springs/Woodstock/Alpharetta areas. How is the commute time? We were hoping for some local feed back. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Well, seeing how Powers Ferry is almost equidistant to 75 and 400, either area would be an OK commute. From Canton/Holly Springs, you'd take 575 to 75 to exit 256. Depending on how far north you go, that'd be roughly 20 miles of Interstate, plus whatever distance you have from home to the Interstate.

Bridgemill is around 5 miles to Exit 11 on 575, so add that plus a few miles to Powers Ferry from 75, and you've got close to a 30 mile commute, which will be around 45 minutes-1hour depending on what time you're coming/going. Depending on where you are in Alpharetta, you'll likely be closer, but the commute time may be the same, as the area is a bit more congested.

We live in Harmony on the Lakes in Holly Springs, which is a smaller version of Bridgemill, and we love the area. It's alot more rural than Alpharetta, yet still close enough to "civilization".....lol.

You could get alot of house for $300-350k in Harmony. I've heard of some quality issues with Sharp Residential (one of the builders there), but Pulte and Haven both build great homes (Pulte is building ours).

There are several golf courses nearby, though I haven't explored the fees, etc., yet.

As far as security, I don't know that you'd really have that much of an issue. Anything that would happen would likely be from outside the development itself, which can happen anywhere. Many people have alarm systems in their homes, but I haven't heard of any issues in/around the development.

Uh, a 45 minute commute from Canton to the Perimeter down I-75? Yeah, maybe on the off hours. Plus, for Holly Springs, it will be a lot worse, since you have to drive over to I-575 and then go down.

Expect a 1-1.5 hour commute on medium rush hour days (which is pretty much always). Seriously, the traffic on I-575 and I-75 is horrid and is the worst for I-75 right outside the perimeter.

I thought I put a post here earlier, but I guess it got erased. Anyways, you would be better off looking at some older homes in East Cobb that will be in that price range. You can get it too, just that newer homes are way more expensive. Schools are great as well.

But, if I were you, I would avoid going that far north for a house.

I've left my house off of Exit 11 on 575 at 6:30, and been downtown at Peachtree and Ellis by 7:30 a number of times in the past few months. The afternoon trip back, leaving at 4:30 was around and hour and 15 minutes. So, Holly Springs to 285 in 45 minutes isn't exactly unheard of- it may not happen every day, but it's not out of the question.

Default Moving

Hi!
Not certain if you have already move. The commute will be about 40 to 50 minutes depending on traffic. Holly Springs, Canton and Woodstock are all great areas. not a lot of congestion, yet. New mall is to be coming I heard to Canton, and several great neighborhsoods, as well. I just recently moved this way, myself. Good luck!

There's plenty of young families on Harmony. Our street currently has 4 houses occupied, and I think we're the "old folks" of the bunch at 37 and 38....lol. There's plenty of kids, and tons of activities every day at the community center.

And yes, the commute can be a little tough, but I've yet to find the "perfect" location that offers everything. We decided that we'd rather sacrifice an extra 1/2 hour of commuting if need be, to have a better quality of life.
