I am trying to decide between houses in 2 neighborhoods: Glastonberry off of Barnwell Road (Barnwell Elementary) and Doublegate (State Bridge Elementary). My main consideration is a good kid neighborhood for my two young children, one who is starting kindegarten in the fall. Any feedback on neighborhoods, schools, etc?

My other main consideration is location. Glastoberry seems like a better central location. Currently my job is off of Holcomb Bridge/141, but may possibly move to Perimeter area. That leads to my second question: what is the best commute to Perimeter from those areas? 1) 141 to 285 to 400 2) State Bridge/Old Alabama/Holccomb Bridge too 400 South or 3) Jones Bridge/Holcomb Bridge/Spalding/Mt Vernon? I plan on "practicing" these commutes but not sure where to start?

My sister lives in Doublegate (she has college age kids) - I will try to get her response to your question tomorrow.

Glastonberry seems like a good, active neighborhood for kids; it's in the same swim league with the team my kids have been on, and seems like a good choice, but I don't really know anything about the other option. Glastonberry also has the advantages of being easy walking distance to Barnwell, and a short drive from Newtown Park, which has lots of very popular kids athletic programs (my kids have done baseball and soccer there).

As for the commute, none of them will be fun. Option 1 is probably not even worth considering, as the worst part of any of the options is getting to the major thoroughfares, and it's a pretty good haul from there to 141. Old Alabama gets pretty backed up all the way from Newtown to Holcomb Bridge in the mornings. Cutting over to Spalding and using that and Mount Vernon is no picnic, but is probably the least ugly of the options, if only because you could change your mind and take one of the other routes if you have to (and have a good GPS with traffic updates that'd let you know whether they're likely to be any better).
