Have you looked in Smyrna or Vinings for Apartments? Look up Post Properties and see what they have in those locations or check out Atlanta Apartments from PROMOVE - The Apartment Source
I live in Alpharetta which is between Duluth and Marietta and it takes me a good 45 minutes to get to Marietta and that's with traffic moving well. If you are set on Duluth do a test drive at the exact time you would be commuting coming and going to work. Stay in a hotel 1 night to do the commute if you don't already live in the area. The cost of the room for one night will be a lot cheaper than making a 6 mos to 1 year commitment of
a very tough, long commute.

I'm confused - are you commuting to downtown Atlanta or to Cumberland? Those are two different areas.

And I'm not here to lecture you, but I think you really REALLY need to consider the commuting time and the added stress that will put on you and your family as well as the time it will take away from them. I feel that many people in the Atlanta metro area value all of the things you mentioned when choosing a location, but then forget about the loss of time they will have with their family because of the commute. What's the use of having great restaurants, malls, and schools around if you spend 12+ hours per week stuck in traffic? Have you factored in gas costs? Is $15K (I assume this is before taxes, so probably more like $9K) going to offset you having to fill your gas tank twice a week (or more!)? Will it offset the added wear and tear on your car? Or worse - the added risk of driving that far and encountering an accident?

I guess I would just think it over a lot more than looking at $$$ and the amenities in your area. Plenty of areas in Atlanta have all of the things you want and may be closer to where you want to work.

The commute from Sugarloaf at 316 to 285/75 would be ROUGH. I used to live in Suwanee, and made the trec. I have since moved into the city. I would think you would be able to find very nice places to live in the Dunwoody area, thus making that commute so much better.

I appreciate all of the advice guys. Last night I did re-evaluate things, and if I take the Cumberland Blvd job (sorry, thought the job was downtown, not Smyrna area) then I will most likely live in Alpharetta. Is that commute going to be better?

Cumberland Blvd is by the 75/285 intersection (NW corner of the 285 loop), and Smyrna is right next door to the west. Vinings is just to the south. Look on google maps to get a better idea:

Here it is...

FWIW, I work in a building on Cumberland Blvd. :-)
