Atlanta Streets Alive!

https://www.facebook.com/events/265853100162796/

So, get this (I've never heard of it before, sorry if I'm behind the times)— from 2 pm to 6 pm on May 20, they're going to close down Highland Avenue all the way from Virginia Highland to down in Inman Park, and it's going to be nothing but foot traffic.

Most of the stuff is going to be of a more spontaneous variety, no big stages or anything like that, but the venues and restaurants along Highland will open up out into the streets and there will be dancing, street music, etc.

Sounds like a blast!

This is actually the third year for the event, however the previous two years it was held in Downtown. Not sure why they moved it Virginia-Highland this year as either the heart of Downtown or Midtown seems like a better place to have pedestrian oriented event. Perhaps there were permitting issues.

The event was incredible this year. Packed with people enjoying the streets of Atlanta. I posted a photo thread over on skyscraperpage:

Link removed - sorry to pee on the corn flakes, but links to that site are not permitted here.

I don't know either, but I suspect it mostly has to do with the Beltline, which runs right underneath N. Highland. Also, That stretch of road has numerous commercial areas (much of it with sidewalk and patio seating), separated by parkland, open spaces and residential developments. That seems to me to be a much more pleasant space for this type of event than a 100% urban streetscape.

I don't know the numbers, but I suspect this year's event had exponentially more attendees than previous years, based on the location being within walking/biking distance of so many residential neighborhoods.

I don't see the thread on that page. Can you post the photos here, or send me a direct link? I'd love to see the photos.

Thanks!

EDIT: Nevermind, I found it. Nice shots! Guess who that is in photo #90.

LOL Dakota the Cat in a Stroller is Atlanta's newest celebrity.
