Roswell is east of Marietta, so a lot of it will depend on where exactly in Marietta you work.

East Cobb is known more for being a typical suburban place, very kid friendly with lots of strip malls, etc. Roswell is kind of similar, but you'll find an active "adult" scene on weekend nights in historic downtown Roswell where restaurants have patios, serve wine, and art galleries abound. Historic Marietta exists, too, but it hasn't caught on as much and East Cobb is probably closer to downtown Roswell than downtown Marietta.

I think Roswell started to get popular more recently, so you'll find a bit of a younger vibe with young couples not wanting to give up every amenity of city living. East Cobb is a bit more comfortable with what it is, suburbia.

That's my perception. I'm not wildly familiar with either area. However, I can tell you that as an outsider, I will occasionally find myself having dinner in Roswell and being part of what seems to be an active restaurant district for the 30-50 year old crowd. East Cobb, I'm sure is fine to live in, but it has no draw for people who don't live there, so I haven't been much.
