We have a second grader and a 4th grader. We have been looking for houses near the CDC and have focused on the Emory area, Virginia Highland and the area around Candler Park. Our first-pick house is in Candler Park right near their elementary school. We were told that the whole neighborhood might be redistricted to a school that's not very good so we are not sure if we want to make an offer until we know more. Does anyone have information on that? Is there an area near CDC that is not being redistricted and has good schools? We really don't want to be too far away from my work so we'd rather not move to Alpharetta or something like that.

We could afford private school, but much prefer to save the money and use a good public school.

Candler Park is not going to any worse school. here is the link for the proposed clusters: Demographic Study / Overview
Mary-Lin, Inman, and Grady are all great schools. Candler Park isn't going anywhere.

I'm a product of a CDC household. We moved to Atlanta when I was 3 and my dad started there. My mom started shortly afterwards. 26 years later, bothparents still work there, and a sibling as well.

We lived in Decatur, which made the commute around 4 miles. Seemingly easy, but as you may or may not be aware, traffic in the "Clifton Corridor" has bloomed considerably in the last decade or so. The CDC and Emory keep adding buildings and jobs. All things considered, it's still worlds better than sitting in standstill traffic on the freeway.

Candler Park is a great neighborhood and will give you comparatively easy access to the CDC campus, likely by way of Clifton Rd.

Cheaper is debatable, but it's a good option. Both are excellent options for families with kids.

There are many CDC and Emory employees that live in Candler Park and Lake Claire as it provides an easy commute straight down Clifton. My wife works for Emory right across from the CDC and it takes her 10-15 minutes to commute from our house in Lake Claire.

As cqholt said, Candler Park isn't going anywhere. There has been a lot of redistricting drama lately, but the neighborhood is going to be fine.

Correct, in fact, the final recommendation has an expansion planned for Mary Lin, the elementary school in the neighborhood.

modr8rsadms, if you can wait until next Tuesday, April 10th, all redistricting changes will be final (there will be an up or down vote) and you can make a decision with all the facts.

I am also a resident of CP and very much enjoy living in the neighborhood.

I have a 4 1/2 yr old and a 17 month old and moved to decatur specifically for the schools and the commute 6 months ago (I work downtown). Seems to me a no brainer for you if you are going to work by the CDC. Schools are very progressive and there is small tight knit community here.
