Possible relocation for a job...Can anyone tell me what the average commute time from Alpharetta to Forest Park may be? It says it's only 38 miles.... but I've been told Atlanta traffic is pretty bad.

Thank you so much for your help!

Assuming you are going @ Rush hour 6:30a-930a. That 38 miles is about 70min. Can you take MARTA there? Would be about 45min from NorthSprings to Airport/CollegePark Station Then bus it over to work on one of the buses. 15m?

Thank you! We have been looking at Fayeteville since it's closer. But Alpharetta just seems to have so much more!

I would not do it. It is a horrible commute. Last year I had a similar commute, Jonesboro to Alpharetta for 4 months. I had to leave almost 2.5 hours early and sometimes I would still be 30 mins late.

Where you would hit traffic if driving in Rush Hour.

In the morning
GA 400 from where ever you get on to 285
It will slow down around the toll booth
from 400 to I-85 to around Grady curve
then it will be smooth sailing all the way to work

In the Afternoon (Which IMO is 50% to 60% worse)
As soon as you get on the highway at I-75 traffic will be sluggish till about I-285
It will lighten up then you will get some merging traffric at I-75 and I-85 on the Southside
then traffic will be horrible from Univeristy Ave till Brookwood split
traffic will be thick to heavy the rest of the way home up 85 and 400

If you choose the job in Forest Park I would advise against living in Alpharetta. The commute is to stressful.

"only 38 miles"

That's reason enough. Even with mild traffic (free moving) that a solid half hour commute (more likely pushing 40 minutes by time you get on and off highways etc).

Reality will be much harsher than that most of the time.

You would need to leave your house by 6:00-6:15am and your ride would be about 40-45 minutes. Leave at 6:30 or later and the commute could easily stretch to double that.

Coming home, take 285 on the East side of town and you'll avoid most of the congestion. I've made it home at 5pm on a Friday in 45 minutes by taking 285 and taking Peachtree Industrial North.

Of course, it depends on where in Alpharetta you're looking....anywhere on the West side of 400, forget it.
