I am planning on moving to the Atlanta area to be closer to my daughter. My price ranger for buying a place is $60,000 or less. I would like to be within a one hour drive of Decatur. I know I probably can't expect much in this price range. But what would be the best and safest options for a single female?

You will be surprised to learn that 60k will buy you an unbelievable home in a fantastic area. We are having a severe housing crisis. I think we're number 1 or 2 worst housing markets and there's a lot of foreclosures and short sales and auctions. Not to mention there's just too many homes, not enough buyers.

You can find older homes that need remodeling or minor work for that price. I've seen several homes in Kirkwood, just west of the Decatur city limits, for around that price.

I suppose "unbelievable" and "fantastic" are subjective terms.

Rent, get to know the area, then buy (especially if you don't know the Atlanta area).

Don't be attracted to something just because it has a low price. Buyer beware and cautious.

East Point. You wouldn't have to drive for an hour, you could take MARTA.

But do your research & due diligence on the safety issue. Some say it is, some say parts are not.
