How many of the people talking about "giving a second chance" would feel that way if they or someone close to them were victims? You know it is good to be on the outside looking in on some things.

Define "victim"...?

A 17-year-old guy dating a 15-year-old girl nine years ago when such conduct would earn them "sex offender" for life?

I'd be very sympathetic. Maybe you wouldn't be, but I don't judge your reactions. To me, the label applied to the person above is a travesty of justice...

I wonder how people would feel about it if their own son or daughter or brother or sister got tagged for life as a "sex offender" for doing something that most people don't consider illegal or immoral?
