I noticed a plot of land for sale in Sweet Auburn, near my office, on Howell.
Could I build a home with contemporary architecture in that neighborhood, or does it have to look a certain way?

The only way to know for sure is to contact the city of Atlanta's Community Development Office (Building/Planning Department).
There is or was an Auburn Ave. Revitalization Committee that I'm sure would have some influence as to the yea or nay of new construction.

What K'ledgeBldr said. You'll have to go through planning and permitting anyway and they'll be able to tell you right off.

I'm not sure the NPUs get involved unless there's a request for rezoning or a variance. As long as he sticks within the existing law he should be okay.

This is from Boston but I have heard some folks here voice similar complaints. How much authority should NIMBYs have over new development? Should a handful of naysayers have veto power over how a community grows?

Why Must a Few Lonely Cranks Decide the Future of Boston's Buildings?
