My husband and I are currently renting in Historic College Park. We moved to the area about a year ago from the suburbs (South Fulton) to be closer to work and our daughter's school. I work in Grant Park and my husband works in the West End (want to keep our commute under 20min); our daughter attends Discovery Montessori in East Point.

All that being said, we really like our neighborhood (specifically the "walkability" to shops and restaurants and a great park) but are now looking to settle down and purchase a home. We would like any suggestions from young families as to family friendly and safe neighborhoods that are in-town. We are currently considering Historic College Park, Jefferson Park, Conley Hills and Frog Hollow (in that order), but we are not ruling out other areas.

We know that we will have to pay for private school, so the schools in the area are not an issue. We don't, however, want to pay a crazy price for a house just to turn around and pay for private school. We are looking to spend under $150k; if we can find something under $75k we are willing to remodel.

Any input would be extremely helpful

I can't comment on the specific neighborhoods, but aren't there some new charter schools in the area? Particularly, Main Street Academy? Several years ago, I met some of the people involved with the formation of this school. I was impressed with them.

Kirkwood is close to both areas, 4-5 miles. The area is safe, has a fire station and police precinct in the neighborhood. Very walkable, 5 parks within the 2 square milee, PATH bike trails. Walking distance to restaurants at the Kirkwood business district and big-box retail stores at Edgewood Retail District. Kirkwood is served by 2 MARTA stations, if you want to commute by transit? There is a strong neighborhood association that works hard to improve the neighborhood.Kirkwood Neighbors' Organization (KNO) :: Kirkwood Neighborhood, Atlanta, GA
