This looks terrific.

I wish we could get more high quality development like this intown. Wouldn't something like be awesome at Lindbergh or Glenwood instead of a big box amid a sea of surface parking?

That looks awesome. The author lists some differentiators that make this development better than others. One of them is:

Quote:
The last of my three main differentiators is housing options. There are a total of 108 residences planned. Most subdivisions that size have one or two type of housing stock. You may get all single family, all townhomes or a mix of the two. In the case of Avalon Gardens, potential buyers will find nine different housing types to choose from. Listed below along with the quantity of each:

Courtyard Terrace (21)
Grand Terrace Homes (8)
Tower Homes (2)
Courtyard Homes (35)
Park Homes (7)
Garden Cottages (5)
Urban Lofts (3)
Shop Front Homes (5)
Terrace Homes (12)
Aren't these just pretentious euphemisms for single family homes or townhouses of one kind or another?

I'm guessing there's a world of difference between a Grand Terrace Home and a Courtyard Terrace.

Uh-oh. The Sandy Springs' downtown redevelopment plan has already hit a snag. It looks like the plan could displace Eddie's Garage, which has been a fixture for 40 years.

Sure, urbanism is nifty, but at what cost? It sounds like some residents are fine with leaving things just as they are.

Strange, considering that Woodstock's true downtown area is only about two blocks long. I guess they're considering running to some remote locations.

There was walk about having a local "shopping train" that would go from Woodstock to Canton on the weekends once Holly Springs' downtown gets built up- now that would be nice to see.

Dunwoody is having a bench clearing brawl about Village Parkway. Right now it's four lanes with a tree-lined median. Frankly it sounds a lot more attractive than it actually is. The plan is to remove the median, take it down to two lane and add sidewalks and bike lanes in an effort to give the area a "Main Street." I rarely use it so I have no dog in the fight, but reading the commentary in the Dunwoody Crier is like watching the Daily Show. My personal favorite is the claim that the plan is part of some international conspiracy to....actually I have no idea what the goal of the alleged conspirators is. Maybe they're underwear gnomes?

It's Agenda 21. A thinly disguised plan to gut our American way of life with things like "smart growth," "sustainability," "regional planning," "walkability" and "multi-use trails."

The idea is that the government knows more about how to do things than private citizens, and that private property should be managed by the government as they deem best for society

You can probably guess which party is pushing for this.
