If you have less than 2 yrs experience (i.e. you will not be hired as a senior) and want to work for a Big 4, you either need to go through college recruiting or have a contact inside the local office you want to work at. Many cities are experiencing a shortage of staff accountants (although I'm not sure if Atlanta is on this list). The local firms are much easier to cold-call and apply that way.

I haven't noticed a decrease in staff accountants (in my many hours online looking for qualified resumes)... however, I have noticed that there aren't very many out there who are looking for anything other than A/P and audit. Which is frustrating when you need a tax person. Any of you accountants out there, if you are or know of someone looking for a job who has worked in an accounting firm as a tax accountant please let me know?!? I'm sick of reading resumes... Good Luck, Nemo! It's not so easy to get in on the ground floor in those places, but there are ways.

Get on to Monster.Com and search for ads for Atlanta, and you will find pay scales for this area.

A good friend of mine works at Large & Gilbert and loves it, so you might want to add that company to the list. Good luck!
